Facebook Advertising

Although this isn’t strictly part of organic search engine optimization, online advertising is a large part of many online budgets to drive traffic to their website and when I saw that advertising had become integrated into Facebook, I thought it would be interesting to experiment with it.

Facebook uses the Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising model. This isn’t a new concept and all the search engines offer the facility to advertise on their search result pages and only take payment when a person clicks on your advertisement (hence the name). This is also the largest money spinner for all of these search engines.

For those of you that may not have heard of Facebook, it is the largest social networking site in the World with more than 350 million active users and over half of them go to the site every single day. What does this mean when it comes to advertising with them? It means you have an enormous global audience that you can market to.

Worrying About PageRank?

PageRank is another algorithm that is used by Google to determine the importance of a website or web page. This algorithm uses numbers to assign a value (from 1 – 10) to that importance. I often see arguments online about whether or not PageRank (PR) is important or not.

If you don’t know the PageRank of your site, you can either use the Google toolbar or you can go to a site like PRChecker and enter your URL to find out. 0 is the lowest (or least important) and 10 is the highest (or most important). Try benchmarking your site against your competitors to see where it ranks in importance – according to Google.

    SEO for Japan

With over 94 million internet users, Japan is a large market for any business or online shopfront. However, the country with it’s unique language, culture and people can be very mysterious to the rest of the world. As with most things in Japan, there is a major difference between search engines there and the rest of the World, even though their most popular one is Yahoo.

Do You Need an SEO Agency?

You can never know everything about SEO; the search algorithms change frequently, the rules are shifting constantly and sometimes it can be difficult just to keep up. That’s why to ensure that the information in this site is up-to-date and relevant, I use a number of SEO agencies in different countries on an advisory basis so that if I’ve missed anything or something has changed that I’ve not been made aware of, I have another set of eyes and ears to let me know.

For those of you that may be contemplating whether or not to use an SEO agency, I’d like to share my experience working with them.
